It made me happy to see the turkey as a delicious part of the meal and not a dried obstacle in need of gravy.

Ham is good any day of the year.
2 years ago I was in the odd position of having Thanksgiving by myself. I wasn't up to the task of traveling to my family up in Oregon and the 'mates went to their house in Arizona, so I ordered the smallest catered dinner I could find, which ended up being a 10lb ham with everything.
I divided it up into quarters and freezing most of it. It was finished on Easter Sunday.

Anyone ever had slan? It's like a slab of pure bacon fat that's smoked and cured. You can just slice it and eat, but I have been dreaming of a sandwich made from several FRIED slices of this stuff. I'm hoping the local Russian bakery/store will have it.

Hi Corvus Kulde, sorry I haven't even heard of it. Does it taste like bacon?

I don't know if it's a preparation or a cut of meat but it's good. I havn't tried it fried yet but it should taste like the best bacon you ever had.
