Hey everyone! I got only one leftover uncarved pumpkin, and it is still good! No moldy, no smelly, etc. Is it still good to make pies? I've gotten it since September 23rd to now! So should I cut and open if it is good or not? Well I've kept that one outside with sunny light and a few rain weather.
I carved my last pumpkin for my Thanksgiving centerpiece, and it was fine. So if you want to use yours, cut it open and see. It should be obvious if it's good or not. If it's still good, split it in half, clean out the seeds and stuff, and bake it in a shallow pan of water (split side down) for about an hour, or however long it takes to get tender. Then you can use the flesh however you like.
I warn you, though, that jack-o-lantern pumpkins are not the best to eat. Those little sugar pumpkins (called pie pumpkins) are the best for that.
By the way, I've not opened it yet... I mean, to carve it b/c it was in a great sharpe! No moldy, no bugs around it! I'd like to see how long it will go till spring season. Do you think it will be good idea
Well, if you just want to see how long it will last, you can try saving it. In my experience, they do eventually break down, and when they do, they aren't good for anything except maybe a compost pile.
I'll give it a try myself to see if it will be ok till spring, if not then I will throw it away. But, if it will break then I have to bury it in the backyard. Seriously! Maybe I want to see it can grow the pumpkin vines around the garden.
