Well ghouls was flicking through the tv stations and on came hocus pocus. What a brilliant film it brought back many good memories. It got me in the mood for halloween again and am now looking at my halloween coustume for this year and trying to finialise my costume for the Dublin zombie walk. What are your fav films for halloween when you where younger?

I was a child in the '60s, and there weren't many Halloween movies back then that I can recall. I loved Disney's Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, which wasn't really about Halloween, but was kind of scary at times. Charlie Brown's Great Pumpkin was made toward the end of that decade, IIRC. That was a TV special.

Hocus Pocus was my kids' movie, but I love it, too. Very well made Halloween movie for kids of all ages.

I guess I don't really have one.. I wasn't allowed to watch many scary things, so I missed out on most

Oh, in the early '60s, Psycho was the scariest movie anyone had ever seen. I attended as a young child (no ratings back then), but I climbed into my mother's lap and went to sleep after the first murder. I have seen it since as an adult, and it seems all OTT Freudian to me now, but it was considered the scariest thing ever at the time. I heard of people who couldn't take showers after they'd seen it.

The Exorcist inherited the mantle of "scariest movie ever" in the early '70s, but I didn't see it when it first came out.

In the early '60s, both The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents were scary TV shows watched by many.

I still love Hocus Pocus. I think it came out when I was in the 2nd or 3rd grade. My little niece likes it to so that makes me happy

There was some Disney special that I remember seeing as a little kid that I liked--It was a collection of different cartoons. I think one featured Donald Duck and Huey, Dewey, and Louie and it seems like there was an escaped gorilla that they were afraid of. Another part had the Night on Bald Mountain scene with Chernabog from Fantasia. The show was narrated by a Jack-o-Lantern and I want to say it was called Disney's Halloween Treat but it's been a thousand years and I can't be too sure about that.

I also liked The Legend of Sleepy Hollow when I was little. It's been forever since I've seen it but I would like to show it to my niece. I saw it on Amazon and I think it was called 'The Adventures of Ichabod Crane and Mr. Toad' or something like that. I don't know when Mr. Toad got invited to the party...

I saw the Exorcist for the first time when I was 12 (probably same age as you, Witchy) and it messed me up for years. I couldn't sleep in silence because my mind would just go crazy and I would think I was hearing noises coming from the attic. I slept with my stereo on for probably 6 years after I saw that movie

Pumpkin, I had a VHS of that Disney version of Sleepy Hollow when my kids were little (my oldest is 22, maybe around your age). I believe the "Mr. Toad" part of it was a separate cartoon that was sold on the same VHS tape, since they were both shorts. I never paid much attention to the second one.

As a lit major type, I can say that the Disney version of Sleepy Hollow is the closest adaptation to the short story that I have ever seen. Tim Burton's film is fun but not very much at all like the story. The Disney cartoon really captures the humor and whimsey of the original.

Hocus Pocus is a classic. I'm not sure if it did all that well in theaters way back when, but it has had tremendous staying power. I love it because it hits all the Halloween icons but is very amusing, something the whole family can enjoy.

When I was probably 15 or so, I saw The Exorcist in a book store and decided to buy it. I think was trying to figure out why it still scared me--I didn't get any answers there
I have to say though, that it was a very good book. I couldn't put it down.

Now that I'm older, I still don't want to re-watch it but it makes more sense to me why it was scary--bumps in the night, monsters and her voice once she's completely possessed just makes my skin crawl.

I know "Scooby Doo and the Mystery Machine," wasn't a movie then but growing up, I LOVED watching it!!!

It is amazing what a cash cow that still is. They still make about two movies a year, and as of last year, there was a new series. I had watched a few episodes and it is rather well done. They still investigate mysteries each week, with an overarching mystery that continues every week. At least it was in the episodes I saw.

There was a Scooby-Do stage show touring the country ten or eleven years ago. It was well done, too. I took my daughter, who was a pre-schooler at the time.

I LOVED Scooby Doo when I was a kid. I decided to introduce it to my niece a little over a year ago and when I found a few episodes on demand, I was shocked to see when that show was made--1969! I can't stand the new Scooby Doo. I cringe anytime my niece is over and wants to watch it and the only episodes on demand are the new ones.
