I had never heard of the Days of the Dead until my honeymoon, which we spent in San Antonio (we married on Oct. 24). I was charmed by that custom. However, I have never lived anywhere that celebrates it.
As for what I'm doing right now--my husband, a school teacher, is taking a group of high school kids (including our own son) on a college tour of UT-Knoxville and UT-Chattanooga. They had to get up around 2:30 this morning to make it to their bus by 4:30 a.m. Knoxville is 3 1/2 hours away, with a time change, and Chattanooga is two hours away from us. I'm not sure how long it takes to drive from Knoxville to Chattanooga, as I've never driven it that way. I am so gonna crash by this afternoon! So freakin' tired!
